Angela Scott is the Executive Director of Boston-based MEDIAGIRLS, a nonprofit whose mission is to teach girls and young women to become critical media consumers. She has been involved with MediaGirls for over four years, teaching girls to navigate social media, and seeing up close the deleterious effects on their self-esteem. We reached out after the recent WSJ expose, “Facebook Knows Instagram Is Toxic for Teen Girls, Company Documents Show”. Its own in-depth research shows a significant teen mental-health issue, including contributing to anxiety, depression, and body image issues for 1 in 3 teen girls.
Listen to this episode to learn what parents and girls can do to curate a positive social media experience, including using social media for social good.
