Launching The “Confident” Podcast

So, what’s the story on LiveGirl launching a podcast?

After a long corporate career, I founded LiveGirl six years ago to “pay it forward” to the next generation of female leaders. Our mission is simple: to build confident leaders and close the female leadership gap. Our approach includes connecting young women with mentors and role models who look like them. Since founding LiveGirl, I’ve personally met and we have hosted some truly extraordinary leaders, including Icon Diane Von Furstenberg, bestselling author Rachel Simmons (“Enough As She Is”), Lauren Oliver (“Before I Fall”), Georgia Hunter (“We Were the Lucky Ones”), Deidre Stanley (Estee Lauder), Dr. Cristal Glangchai (Founder CEO VentureLabs), Barbara Stevens (President Rand Insurance), Laura Brounstein (Cosmopolitan & Seventeen Magazines), Jessica Long (2nd most decorated U.S. paralympic athlete of all time & author "Unsinkable"), Sabrina Thompson (Survivor Winner) and so many more!

Every time I meet a female icon, I learn so much and wish that we could somehow capture their knowledge and wisdom to benefit a wider audience of girls and women. Over the past year, I have mused at how incredible it would be to feature these women on a podcast! You see, one of my favorite ways to relax, is to grab my ear buds and go out for a walk while listening to a podcast. Some of my favorites are Skimm This, The Cut on Tuesdays, and The Fix with Michelle King. Should LiveGirl host a podcast? I engaged my daughter on the idea. Would she like to be involved? After all, my daughter Olivia (now 16 years old) has been my co-pilot with LiveGirl from the beginning. She is fearless and amazes me every single day. I fell in love with the idea of working with her on this project. After looking around, we realized there wasn’t another podcast exactly like the one we had in mind. Olivia and I, lending mother/daughter perspectives, would have conversations with fierce female leaders on the things holding young women back today. What would they say about the fear of failure? fear of public speaking? body negativity? visibility gap? And so on.

Yes, the decision was made to launch a podcast. But who could provide the production expertise and equipment? Enter Nurenu Brand Marketing. Founder BJ Flagg has always been a LiveGirl supporter (lucky for us!). They designed our fabulous new logo. I approached BJ with a detailed, thoughtful pitch, and she quickly responded, “You had me at, ‘Will you help us launch a podcast?’” We them worked on content creation and guest list. For the format, we wanted to design unique conversations, each focusing on a different leadership lesson, addressing those things holding young women back today. We want the podcast to spark conversation and personal discovery. We also added in some fun elements, including a speed round of questions and “I’ll have what she’s having” recommendations, because we want people to have fun while they’re learning.

Next the guest list. We have a deep network of amazing female leaders who support our community… truly, there are so many women cheering on the next generation! We are fortunate. For our first four episodes, we chose to feature a diverse slate: a race car driver, a business CEO, a creative artist entrepreneur, and a state senator. We want girls and women to be enlightened and know what’s possible.

So, that’s the story! We are having more fun than we imagined recording the podcast. Every episode is so different!! But they all start with the introduction,

“Whether we’re talking about the fear of failure or anything else holding you back, confidence is the key to unleashing your power. Welcome to “Confident” with me, Sheri West, and my fearless daughter, Olivia. Join our conversations with fierce female leaders and explore how YOU can become more confident.”

We hope you will listen to “Confident”, launching October 29th!! We are excited to provide you with an opportunity to “meet” some truly fierce, trailblazing female leaders, and to leverage their lessons to become more confident.

Peace & Gratitude,

Sheri West, Founder & Chief LiveGirl
