Episode 12: Things We Care About: Ending Forced and Child Marriage

In this episode of Confident, Sheri and Olivia talk to Fraidy Reiss about the reasons behind #ChildMarriage, the challenges it poses, and the progress made in ending it across the U.S.

Delaware and New Jersey in 2018 became the first two states to end this human rights abuse, followed by American Samoa in 2018, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Pennsylvania and Minnesota in 2020, Rhode Island and New York in 2021 and Massachusetts in 2022.

Fraidy Reiss is the Founder of Unchained At Last, the only nonprofit in the US dedicated to helping women and girls escape arranged/forced marriages. Through Unchained, Fraidy has helped hundreds of survivors across the U.S. to escape forced marriages, and she now leads a growing national movement to end child marriage in every U.S. state and at the federal level.
