2020 Interns
MOLLY ROCHLIN
“My internship is at 1843 Capital, a venture capital firm that invests in early-stage technology companies.
I will be assisting the partners and founder, Tracy Chadwell, on any projects or assignments with which they need my help.
It is very important to develop your own voice and use it confidently. Advocating for yourself and your ideas can lead to greater success than one may think.
She Works has given me the opportunity to hear and learn from professional women leaders who have worked hard to create their own successes. Their advice will motivate me to bridge the gender differences in the workforce and create the confidence that I am capable of anything. By attending these training sessions before I start my internship, I will head into 1843 Capital with a stronger education and a crucial set of skills. Throughout my whole career, I will be able to use all of the tools I have learned to push me towards my own successes.”
KATE REEVES
“My role at New Canaan League of Women Voters is to work on voter registration and education by reimagining the annual voter's guide, amplifying voter registration efforts, and developing the website.
I really valued the advice Mita Mallick gave about diversity and inclusion during our She Works training. She discussed how inclusion is about more than pulling up more seats to the table. It is about making sure those voices are welcome at the table and those voices are heard.
I think She Works will serve as a building block in my career because it has created a broad base of professional knowledge that I did not previously have. We have heard from an array of experts and I have taken unique lessons away from each of them, all of which will be extremely helpful in different areas of my professional life. She Works has also provided me with a network of fellow female leaders who I am constantly learning from. The other young women in the She Works cohort are brilliant, curious, and passionate, and I look forward to being able to stay in touch with them after She Works.”
TIARA STARKS
“My role with Refinitiv is being an Account-Based Marketing Intern. The most important thing I’ve learned from the career readiness training is how to build confidence in the workplace. As a woman, there have been barriers for us as employees and now is the time to break through those barriers and become more assertive and passionate in our work.
She Works will serve as building block in my career because it has helped me understand how to network and build connections with other professionals.”
KELLIE SCOTT TAYLOR
“My role with Stacey Tisdale is to support with editing updated information, research, production, and website management.
The most vital thing I have learned from the career-readiness training and internship is how to better clarify my professional purpose and career values by effectively utilizing the techniques that were shared by Dr. Hilary Berger.
The following quotes resonate with me:
- Your career identity is organic and informed by your experiences and evidence in what brings you fully to life. It is an extension of your self-concept. It needs to be nurtured. It changes across your life span while you live many life roles.
- You don't have to be good at things to learn them. You can learn anything with persistence and a growth mindset.”
OLIVIA WEST
“I will be interning with the CT Institute for Refugees and Immigration as a External Relations Team intern.
The most important thing that I learned from the career-readiness training and internship is to advocate for myself. Whether it's about negotiating my salary or presenting new ideas, I always need to speak up and make my voice be heard in order to be an effective employee and leader.
She Works has taught me a lot of important skills and tips to be successful in the workplace, which will be very important as I start and continue in my career.”
