Book Club

This month's LiveGirl Book Club selection is SURE SIGNS OF CRAZY by Karen Harrington selected from the Teen Nutmeg Book Award nominee list. For those unfamiliar with the Nutmeg Book Award, it encourages children to read quality literature and to vote for their favorite from a list of ten nominated titles. (Full list of nominees The idea is to provide your daughter with lots of good reading choices in order to encourage her to read! As always, we'll provide an optional book club break-out at our next leadership summit on November 8th.

Here is a description of this crazy good book!
You've never met anyone exactly like twelve-year-old Sarah Nelson. While most of her friends obsess over Harry Potter, she spends her time writing letters to Atticus Finch. She collects trouble words in her diary. Her best friend is a plant. And she's never known her mother, who left when Sarah was two.
Since then, Sarah and her dad have moved from one small Texas town to another, and not one has felt like home.
Everything changes when Sarah launches an investigation into her family's Big Secret. She makes unexpected new friends and has her first real crush, and instead of a "typical boring Sarah Nelson summer," this one might just turn out to be extraordinary.

CURIOSITY HOUSE: THE SHRUNKEN HEAD by the amazing and talented Lauren Oliver! This book is about, among other things: the strongest boy in the world, a talking cockatoo, a faulty mind reader, a beautiful bearded lady and a nervous magician, an old museum, and a shrunken head. The Shrunken Head is the first in a series and your daughter will likely get hooked and want to read them all! Read it now and we'll discuss at our leadership summit on October 7th!
